Flooring industry leaders emphasized the need for alignment in sustainable practices and industry collaboration at the recent Flooring Sustainability Summit in Washington, D.C.
Participants of the convention called for alignment of the industry’s supply chain by standardizing education and simplifying terminology to ensure the industry is working toward common sustainability objectives, according to a release.
Participants also called for standardizing terms related to sustainability in flooring as definitions and accounting methods currently vary widely.
Takeaways from the summit also included the need for collaboration among industry leaders and experts.
International Interior Design Association CEO Cheryl Durst said at the summit, “If we are to solve the problems and challenges that face us as a culture, as organizations, and as an industry, we have to have these larger conversations with one another.”
The Flooring Sustainability Summit was co-hosted by the Tile Council of North America, Natural Stone Institute, National Wood Flooring Association and North American Laminate Flooring Association. The 2025 summit will be held July 16–17.
