NAR Predicts Increase in U.S. Home Sales

Home sales are predicted to increase 9% in 2025 and 13% in 2026, according to the National Association of Realtors Chief Economist Lawrence Yun.

During the NAR NXT, The Realtor Experience event in Boston, Mass., Yun noted that 2023 was difficult for existing-home sales, and 2024 looks to be the same.

However, there was an increase in pending home sales in September, which could be an indication of increased home sales in 2025.

“Directionally, I think there’s going to be roughly a 10% boost of existing-home sales in 2025 and 2026,” Yun said.

Recent job gains could propel future home sales, according to Yun. Job gains since March 2020 have led to record-high payroll employment as of September 2024.
