Mullican Flooring is celebrating its 40th anniversary this year.
Founded in 1985 along the banks of the Greenbrier River in Ronceverte, W.Va., Mullican Flooring has grown from a small lumber operation into a leading manufacturer of hardwood floors. The company is now headquartered in Johnson City, Tenn.
The father-and-son team of Bill Mullican Sr. and Bill Mullican Jr. initially led the company. Now, President Pat Oakley, who succeeded longtime president Neil Poland upon his retirement in January 2024, leads the company.
In addition to its Johnson City headquarters, Mullican operates production facilities in Norton, Va.; Holland, N.Y.; and its original hometown of Ronceverte.
The company says it practices environmental stewardship, and in partnership with the NWFA, Mullican helped establish the Responsible Procurement Program to ensure hardwood products are sourced responsibly. The initiative also introduced the “U.S. Renewing Forests” label, certifying that materials come from forests where growth outpaces harvest, according to the company.
Mullican says it was also the first domestic hardwood flooring producer to promote Appalachian Hardwood Manufacturers Inc. verified sustainable timber. The company’s products meet top environmental standards, including FSC certification, California Air Resources Board compliance and FloorScore Indoor Air Quality certification.
