Vance Hough Jr. of Annandale, Va.-based, Annandale Floors passed away on June 24 at the age of 79. He battled cancer for a year and a half, according to his obituary.
During his battle with cancer, Hough continued running the family flooring business that his father had started in 1934. Hough left teaching in 1980 to take over Annandale Floors, and eventually purchased it from his father. “Vance took exceptional pride in the business's reputation and always made sure that his customers were completely happy with their completed job,” his obituary said. “He always wanted the customer to have that ‘piano finish.’”
Hough employed skilled craftsmen and invested in their training, sending them to classes to learn the proper use of various products and machines so that every customer received flawless work. Over the years, his reputation became his signature—earning him repeat customers along with referrals from the many builders, construction companies and realtors he worked alongside.
“I first met Vance at the 1987 NWFA convention in St. Louis,” Howard Brickman of Brickman Consulting told Wood Floor Business. “We became good friends on a professional and personal level.”
“Vance and his widow Joyce are good people and were always strong advocates for the wood floor industry,” Brickman said, adding that Hough “was a proud Hokey (Virginia Tech) graduate.”
Flowers can be sent through the Fairfax Memorial Funeral Home floral store. Hough’s full obituary and funeral details can be found here.
