A new trend report from Bona (Englewood, Col.), its inaugural “Bona FloorCast,” found that 61% of Americans prioritize wood flooring when designing or purchasing a home.
Respondents emphasized the versatility and timeless appeal of hardwood flooring, but ranked ease of maintenance (51%) and cost (49%) as top concerns.
The report surveyed 1,000 American homeowners in addition to compiling the company’s insights and consumer preferences.
"While style and design matter, Americans prioritize easy cleaning and care when it comes to their floors. This highlights an interesting intersection of convenience, craft and creativity," said Zack Clavin, tech and training specialist and Bona. "Homeowners want craftsmanship, customization and care to converge and create spaces that are as personal as they are lasting."
Other findings include:
- Gen Z (67%) and millennial (57%) homeowners said that social media influences their flooring design decisions.
- For homes with existing wood floors, a majority of homeowners said they would opt to restore their floors over replacing them.
- Over half (60%) of homeowners said they hold off on cleaning until they see visible dirt or spills.
- When choosing a solution to clean their floors, 69% of homeowners rank performance as their leading concern; 54% value sustainability certifications.
