As the International Standards and Training Alliance celebrates its 25th anniversary, the organization is focusing on performance assurance by establishing documented training and installer qualifications for the procurement process. This way, contractors, specifiers and owners know who will install their floors before a project goes out to bid.
“The absence of a credentialed standard at the procurement stage represents a systemic risk,” INSTALL explained in a press release. “The need is sharpest in markets where installation failures carry the highest consequences.” For example, in sports flooring, “subfloor tolerances and performance characteristics demand a distinct skill set,” INSTALL added.
“Installation failures rarely trace back to the flooring itself,” INSTALL Executive Director David Gross said. “They stem from jobsite variables: substrate issues, jobsite management due to tight schedules, and lack of sufficiently trained installers, both in number and competence, for the tasks at hand.”
