A large portion of the construction and design industry has moved from experimenting with AI to using it daily, according to the 2026 U.S. Houzz State of AI: Construction & Design Industry report. Houzz (Palo Alto, Calif.) found that 41% of firms use AI for everyday business tasks, up from 34% in 2025.
Here are more key findings from the report:
- Among construction and design firms using AI, 52% save three-plus hours a week, and 18% save eight hours, totaling an estimated $134,000 in annual productivity gains per firm on average.
- 97% of professionals expect AI to transform the industry within five years, though concern over reliability and accuracy of AI output rose from 33% to 37% year-over-year.
- Construction saw AI adoption jump 20 points to 52%, with firms saving an average of $244,000 annually.
- Design firm adoption reached 39% (up 8 points), with satisfaction rising to 84% from 70% a year ago.
- Houzz surveyed nearly 3,200 renovating homeowners for the first time and found one in five (22%) have used AI on their own projects, mostly for ideation and visualization, while 80% still hire a professional to execute their vision.
