Speaker Bios:Â
Don Jewell- Head of TechnicalÂ
"Don Jewell got into the flooring industry in 1993 as an apprentice for a wood flooring contractor in Minnesota. In 1997 he opened his own wood floor contracting business. He ran this until 2008 when he made the decision to leave contracting and work for a manufacturer. What really drove him to this decision was the ability to share his experience and product knowledge with others. This component of the industry is what drove him to keep moving forward. Don spent two years as a technical sales representative for LOBA Wakol, LLC in North Carolina and was given a “next level” opportunity with Capri cork to work as their Technical Manager. Again, there was a great opportunity to teach and share. In 2017 Don had the opportunity to return to LOBA Wakol as their “Head of Technical” and he jumped at the chance to be part of that growth process.
Don has always said “When I made to decision to leave contracting, I had to really look at what part of this industry really motivated me. It always came back to the teaching and mentoring part of this trade. Seeing a new craftsman “get it” for the first time is what always gets me excited.”Â
Don continues to learn and teach with his involvement in organizations like the NWFA. The vision that the NWFA has falls directly in line with those things that “get him up in the morning”.
A quote from Zig Ziglar is at the heart of everything Don believes: “You can have everything you want in life if you just help enough other people get what they want.”
Tyler Myatt- Loba Application TechnicianÂ
"I grew up in the hardwood flooring industry working with my father, who started a company in the early nineties in Charlotte, North Carolina. I started working in the summers and part time as an early teen, learning how to sand and finish. I entered the field full time in 2012, and immediately enjoyed putting systems to the test. Knowing the limits of the products that I use is important, so when I had the opportunity in 2022 to work as the Loba Application Technician for LOBA Wakol North America, I couldn’t pass it up. I enjoy being able to learn the technical side of the industry, and share that knowledge in our trainings."
Eric Underwood- Wakol Application SpecialistÂ
"I started in the flooring industry in 2001 working at a carpet warehouse. I loaded trucks and sold carpet and vinyl. I then transitioned to working as a helper for a carpet store where we installed all types of floor coverings. I worked as a helper for about 6 years until I was able to go out on my own and I started my own installation company. I subcontracted for many different flooring stores until 2010 and then contracted all of Stanly Interiors work from January 2011 until October 4, 2021, when I took the job at LOBA Wakol North America working with the Technical department as the Wakol application Specialist."
