A Real Southern Summer

Wayne Lee

I need to get my hands on a FA 8 for a job; that's the one unit we do not own. The odd thing is when I worked Clarke the machine was my idea-I got my name on the patent-and I tested it on a bunch of floors. But, I never had to get paid for what it does. How funny is that: I made it, tested it, sold it, but I never knew I would use it to make a living. I called a friend at Clarke and asked to borrow one, and he said yes. It is great to have friends but also friends who respect your knowledge.

Went on one more job site to see why the floor is cupping ... yes, you can guess the trouble. It was 93% RH under the house at 84 degrees. All I could do is get air flow and close down the vents. This has been a bad year for us with the temps going back to normal and the RH getting back in full force. That is after we had three years of wonderful (drier and cooler) summers, not like the real South, but more like Midwestern temps and humidity. Now 100 degrees is more like it and back to the very high RH-the perfect weather for Northwest Tennessee. I do enjoy living here; it just test your skills as a floorman.

Monday wll be fun-I want to see the job where we put the dehumidifeer in the crawlspace...I bet the RH will be down to the 60's from the high 90's  The subfloor should be in around 14 percent, down from 22 percent. I will let you all know ASAP.
