Sanding a wood floor on a 45 degree angle.

It has been some time...sorry. I am working on a big resand in Jackson, Tenn.; the floor is cupped and I am alone on this one. I had to start with 40 grit on a 45 degree to get it flat, then go back with 40 grit to remove the scratches. This is an ash mixed 2 1/4 with 4 inch, and the 4-inch is making it hard to get flat. What has been making things hard is the storms we have had for three days, tornados, high winds 65-80 mph, rain and more rain. Jackson is a 1 1/2 hour drive from the house; my plan was to stay in Jackson but there is no way I could leave the family alone at night during the bad storms. Why is it that the bad stuff comes at night when no one can see? So anyway I have been driving back and forth ... 3 hours round trip kills the workday.
