Kathleen Freeman of Absolute Coatings grew up on wood flooring job sites and says her dad had a huge impact on her life and her career as a wood floor pro:
My dad would always say, "No one knows everything, and each of us can learn something from everyone. So when you work with these other contractors, pay attention. They may have a better way to do something. Always be willing to learn." The first time I ever went to work with another contractor I was nervous because I wasn't sure if I could sand with their machines, so I asked my dad if I could bring his to the job site. His response was, "A real flooring contractor can work with any machine," and if I didn't think I was able to do that, he "wasted his time on me teaching me the trade." Guess what, I was able to work with the other contractor's machines. My dad made me better and gave me the confidence to do what I do. He believed in me even when I had doubts.
