Basketball's oldest court in existence is not in the United States, the country where the sport was invented, it's in the basement of a YMCA in Paris. The court was designed and built in 1895, four years after basketball became a thing in Springfield, Mass. The court is made of Hungarian oak installed in a herringbone pattern. Although the wood, more than a century later, is still in near-perfect condition, the glue beneath the boards is coming undone. The floor definitely needs some work, says the facility director, just like most wood floor pros' basketball skills.
