Existing-home sales in 2011 have been rocky at best-with prices reaching a nine-year low in February-but figures released Tuesday by the National Association of Realtors show sales actually rose overall during the first quarter. Sales of existing single-family homes and condos rose 8.3 percent to a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 5.14 million from 4.75 million in the fourth quarter of 2010. Compared with the first quarter of 2010, sales are off just 0.8 percent.
