Wallace Fred Taylor, founder of adhesive maker W.F. Taylor Co. Inc., died Sept. 22 near Olympia, Wash.; he was 84. Taylor's wife Julia Fern Taylor was at his side when he died.

Taylor was a pioneer of the adhesive industry. During World War II Taylor served in the U.S. Navy, and after he returned home he received a degree in chemistry from the University of Arizona. He worked at several large adhesive companies before starting W.F. Taylor Co. Inc. in 1977.

In 1984 Taylor sold his company, after which it was controlled by two successive British holding companies. Today, W.F. Taylor is again a family-owned company headed by Jack Raidy Sr. "Wally left a strong legacy to build upon and was viewed as a consummate gentleman by our customers and employees. He has remained a valued resource over the years," Raidy said.

In retirement, Taylor climbed mountains and ran marathons; he also played poker and repaired antique clocks.
