Mohawk Ranked on Newsweek's Top Green Companies List

For the third consecutive year, Newsweek has included Mohawk Industries (Dallas, Texas) on its list of the 500 "greenest" companies. This year, Mohawk moved up to 292 overall from 350 on the list, which is in the latest issue of Newsweek.

Mohawk is No. 9 among all consumer goods companies on the list. "Mohawk is honored to be ranked among the leading manufacturers and service providers in Newsweek's annual green rankings," said Bill Kilbride, chief sustainability officer at Mohawk. "This recognition is a testament to the commitment and hard work of all of our employees as we strive toward sustainability."

The company highlights products, processes and people in its sustainability strategy. Through its recycling efforts, Mohawk says it diverts more than three billion pounds of material from landfills each year.

In July the company released its annual sustainability report at www.mohawksustainability.com, and in August it launched a natural-gas-powered semi fleet.

Newsweek's Green Rankings list represents the first effort by a mainstream media organization to evaluate publicly traded companies on their environmental footprint, the methods through which they manage that footprint and their sustainability communications.
