The World Floor Covering Association (WFCA) has named three flooring industry visionaries to its Flooring Industry Hall of Fame class for 2012.
During her 30-year career in the floor covering industry, Sonna Calandrino, who passed away in 2010, served as a retailer, consultant, journalist and speaker. Calandrino ran a successful flooring store in upstate New York, founded Peachtree Communications, which specialized in helping retailers enhance sales and merchandising, and she played an integral role in developing Mohawk Floorscapes during a 10-year tenure as a consultant to that company.
Sandy Mishkin began his career in floor covering in 1962 working as a buyer specializing in floor covering and furniture for E.J. Korvette. After stints with Trend Mills and Horizon Mills, Mishkin went on to grow Carpet One into a 14-division company with more than 3,200 retail locations in less than 30 years.
Paul Pumphrey grew Cleaver Carpet Center into a dominant southern Colorado retailer by 1956. As president of the Retail Floorcovering Institute, Pumphrey forged alliances between other floorcovering groups such as the Carpet & Rug Institute, The Association of Interior Décor Specialists and the National Association of Floor Covering Distributors (NAFCD). Today, he serves on the past chairman's council for WFCA.
The formal induction ceremony will be held May 3 in conjunction with the WFCA's Annual Meeting and Board of Directors Meeting in Boca Raton, Fla.
