A homeowner and a realty company are haggling over repair costs for damaged wood floors after a real estate agent broke into the home in January to give a client a tour even though the property wasn't on the market, according to CBS Atlanta.
The home, in Cartersville, Ga., was vacant while undergoing repairs from water damage sustained in 2010, and the wood floors had recently been stained but remained unsealed. The real estate agent illegally entered the home and tracked dust and tile grout on the wood floors; wet stain was tracked onto a tile floor in a bathroom, as well. The homeowner wants the real estate company to re-sand, re-stain and apply a polyurethane finish on the floors, which she said would cost $4,000.
The real estate company, meanwhile, said it consulted a flooring contractor with 16 years of experience installing and repairing floors, and the realty firm offered the homeowner $500 for repairs. "Since the floors have not yet been sealed, [the flooring contractor] concluded that there was no damage to the floor but only dirt and dust that needed to be cleaned before the floors are finished," CBS reported, adding that "this type of thing happens very frequently in construction and remodeling."
As her next step, the homeowner said she could hire a lawyer to sue for the cost of repairs. For the full report, see the video below or visit CBS Atlanta.
