A mysterious package delivered to the headquarters of Armstrong World Industries (Lancaster, Pa.) on Thursday did not contain any hazardous materials, but it caused a bit of a scare, according to LancasterOnline.com.
Authorities were first alerted of a mysterious package at Armstrong's facility at 2500 Columbia Avenue in Lancaster around 11:15 a.m. Fire department, EMS, state police, haz-mat, bomb squad and FBI agents were all involved in investigating the package, which arrived from Egypt. The package was opened and was found to have a "strange odor." Testing showed that it did not contain any hazardous materials, and authorities did not reveal the package's contents.
About 40 employees were evacuated from the building, and five who came into contact with the package were quarantined but later released.
The week before, LancasterOnline.com reported, about 200 workers were evacuated from the Lancaster County Assistance Office after an envelope containing white powder was delivered there. The building's block was closed to traffic while investigators examined the envelope, but no hazardous materials were found.
