The World Wildlife Fund's Global Forest & Trade Network (GFTN) is organizing a buyers' mission to Peru and Bolivia lasting June 4-16 in order to help manufacturers engage with supply companies committed to the responsible forestry.
Latin America has become a global leader in forest management and certification, GFTN said in a statement, and the opportunities to secure responsibly sourced materials are increasing. As a result, GFTN is making it a primary goal to "facilitate market linkages" for these products. The mission's goal is also shared by the National Wood Flooring Association (NWFA), which is working with WWF through a memo of understanding to engage responsible wood buyers and sellers in the Amazon region.
During the buyers' mission, GFTN is offering technical site visits to industries in the cities of Peru's Lima and Pucallpa, as well as Bolivia's Santa Cruz, Cochabamba, La Paz and Ixiamas. Attendees will have the chance to learn firsthand about the FSC-certified and other responsibly sourced wood available from GFTN's participants in both countries.
Visitors are responsible for travel expenses, meals and lodging. To register, contact GFTN's Amy Smith at [email protected] or (202) 495-4564. A full itinerary can be viewed below.
