Armstrong World Industries (Lancaster, Pa.) is hiring 95 full-time workers at its wood flooring plant in Jackson, Tenn.
Company spokeswoman Jennifer Johnson said the company is adding employees as the housing market begins to show signs of a possible recovery. The open positions are for maintenance saw operating and lumber grading. The new workers will comprise the plant's second shift, which will complement its first and third shifts.
"Like other businesses, we adjusted our manufacturing footprint to coincide with the downturn in the economy and significant drop in demand over the last four years," Brent Hayman, Armstrong Jackson plant manager, said. "Now we're seeing some demand return, and as a result, we're adding shifts in certain facilities like Jackson to fill our customer's needs. We are excited about the additional jobs we can bring to Jackson, and we look forward to continued success and partnership with the community."
The plant in Jackson was formerly known as Bruce Hardwood Floors; Armstrong bought it 1998 and it currently employs about 244 people, the Sun reported. In total, Armstrong employs about 9,100 workers at 32 plants in eight countries. Recently, Armstrong's corporate leaders declared a special dividend of $500 million.
