A little more than two years after it filed for receivership, Aacer Flooring (Peshtigo, Wis.) is hiring new workers and growing.
On Monday the company announced it has added 25 full-time positions and increased production time, bringing its current production to four flooring lines.
"The events of the last two years have been truly astounding at Aacer Flooring," said Kevin Barker, Aacer's vice president of sales and marketing. "As many were writing off Aacer Flooring to become a statistic of the poor economy, we pulled ourselves up off the deck and turned the company around. We made it back last year to full strength on the production side and now we have surpassed expectations."
In a prepared statement, Barker said Aacer's employee count is now 20 percent higher than where it was last year. Its recent success has allowed it to bolster its benefits packages, which is helping it compete for labor in northern Wisconsin. The company's CEO, Gordy Boyd, said it is seeing increased demand from China for its finished wood products.
In July 2010, Aacer, along with its sister company Wolf River Lumber Inc. (New London, Wis.), exited receivership with the financial backing of East Lansing, Mich.-based Greenstone FCS Company, a $6 billion company.
