The Hardwood Federation, a wood products industry lobbying group, has named Dana Lee Cole its executive director; Cole will start in her new role on June 25.
Cole began her career working for Michigan's former Governor John Engler as a policy advisor. After that, she spent eight years with the Michigan Economic Development Corporation in several roles promoting small and large businesses in the state and negotiating regulatory disputes.
Since 2004, Cole has served at the 11,000-member National Association of Manufacturers (NAM) as vice president of corporate affairs and corporate board secretary.
"The impact small and medium-sized businesses have on our economy cannot be overstated," Cole said, "and I'm going to continue to impress upon Congress and the [Obama] Administration how vital the hardwood community is. Not just to jobs, but to a healthy and sustainable environment, to robust trade policies, and to green building. I'll also be keeping the Hardwood Federation Political Action Committee moving forward in the hopes of hitting its 2012 fundraising goals."
Cole has taken the place of the group's former executive director Deb Hawkinson, who resigned in April to serve as president at the Forest Resources Association (FRA).
