There are about 5 million companies with employees in the U.S., and the bulk of them already offer health care or do not meet the threshold to be compelled to offer health care to employees under President Obama's Affordable Care Act, according to the Small Business Legislative Council. A company "triggers" the mandate to offer health care when they employ 50 full-time employees in a given year.
