Authorities in Cambodia are searching for three men, one of whom is a former police officer, suspected of beating a journalist who has reported on illegal logging activities, according to United Press International.
The journalist, 42-year-old Ek Sokunthy of Cambodia's Andong Meas district, was beaten inside his home with a pistol and wooden stick. His wife was pushed to the floor, as well. Since writing an article exposing illegal logging activities, Sokunthy has received three death threats from military and provincial police, Sokunthy's editor told UPI.
In mid-September the body of Hang Serei Oudom, also a journalist in Cambodia who had also reported on illegal logging, was found in the trunk of his car; he was bludgeoned to death with an ax.
