The Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI) recently announced that lumber being used to build the platform upon which President Obama will take his second oath of office on Jan. 21 bears the forest group's certification standard.
The lumber was harvested in Washington State and was provided by Sierra Pacific Industries, a family-owned company and the second-largest producer of lumber in the U.S. According to SFI, the group is the largest single forest certification standard in the world.
"I am delighted that wood certified to the SFI Standard is being used in the construction of the 2013 presidential inauguration platform," said Kathy Abusow, SFI's president and CEO. "Wood certified to the SFI Standard highlights the contributions of responsibly-managed American forests during one of the most important ceremonies in the world."
