Good gas mileage is no longer enough to make a car eco-friendly. According to USA Today, makers of luxury cars are using sustainable wood for their interiors, choosing bamboo, river-reclaimed oak and old fence posts rather than potentially questionable exotic woods.
"Every little bit counts in terms of manufacturers trying to raise awareness," Roland Hwang, transportation program director for the Natural Resources Defense Council, told USA Today. "It shows there is a growing market for sustainable products."
While there is usually a very small amount of wood in a car, the newspaper argues that it is just one more feature that makes buyers feel good about their purchase.
