The Key West Custom House floor before refinishing
A team of experts descended into Key West, Fla., to refinish the aging but historical Key West Custom House and teach skills to contractors seeking CEU credits at the same time.
The Key West Custom House opened in Florida in 1891, and over its century-plus lifespan has been host to a number of organizations and history-defining events. In addition to being a customs house and post office, it also housed the district courts and was the site of the inquiry into the USS Maine sinking in Havana Harbor, which sped up the impending diplomatic impasse between the United States and Spain. Today the Custom House is a national landmark, museum and headquarters of the Key West Art & Historical Society.

Involved with the refinish was Gary Sword of Sword Floors (Williamsburg, Va.), David Buss of New England Wood Floor Consulting and Inspections (Plymouth, Mass.), Dan Petersen of Heritage Wood Finish Company and Howard Brickman of Brickman Consulting.
