The National Wood Flooring Association's Intermediate Installation and Intermediate Sand & Finish training courses are now each four-day events, giving participants twice the amount of time for classroom and hands-on learning in each skill area.
The new format was used for intermediate training sessions in June. More than 40 students from the manufacturing, distributing and contracting sectors of the wood flooring industry attended, said Brett Miller, NWFA director of certification and education, in a statement.
The new training format allowed instructors to cover more topics and in-depth techniques, like "lacing-in," in which the installation of a new floor is interlaced with an existing wood floor.
Because the format runs four days, students don't just learn how to apply stains, but can actually see the end results and assess for problems, causes and cures.
The next Intermediate Installation and Intermediate Sand & Finish training classes will be held in Chicago on Aug. 5 and 12 respectively. The NWFA Technical Education Schedule is at NWFA.org.
