The U.S. Department of Agriculture on Aug. 6 expanded its definition of biobased products eligible under its BioPreferred program to include forest products.
The definition had not been changed since the passing of the 2008 Farm Bill. Prior to the most recent change, forest products were considered "mature market" products that had a significant market share before 1972, and did not qualify.
"You can't get much more biobased than wood products," said American Wood Council President and CEO Robert Glowinksi in a statement.
