The National Wood Flooring Association surveyed contractors via email recently and found that nearly a majority of its member contractors (48 percent) have 15–30 years of experience, while just 4 percent have fewer than five years.

The survey also found that:
- 63 percent of contractors have two to nine employees
- 65 percent of new/inexperienced installers make $10–$14 per hour
- 49 percent of those with two to four years of experience make $15–$19 per hour
- 94 percent of those with five to 10 years of experience make $15 per hour or more
- Employee turnover is less than 5 percent for half of the respondents' companies
- 49 percent of contractors do not have a succession plan for their company
- 64 percent are likely or very likely to recommend a career in flooring
