Employers must report all accidents involving in-patient hospitalization, amputation or loss of eye accidents as long as one person was treated, a change from the previous number of three, according to a new rule from the Occupational Safety and Health Administration.
The rule also gives the employer more time to report the accident. Instead of eight hours, they now will have up to 24 hours from the time the employer learned the employee was receiving treatment. The new rule goes into effect Jan. 1.
There is no change to the reporting rule for fatalities.
The description of the rule change from the OSHA can be read here.
