Construction spending during the first 10 months of the year was at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of $800.6 billion, 5.8 percent above the $756.5 billion for the same period in 2013.
Private construction spending was at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of $692.4 billion, 0.6 percent above September's rate of $688 billion.
Of that, residential construction was at $353.8 billion and nonresidential construction was at $338.6 billion, 1.3 percent higher and 0.1 percent lower than the September rates, respectively.
Public construction in October was at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of $278.6 billion, 2.3 percent above the September rate of $272.3 billion.
