Study: Global Forestry Corruption Worth $29 Billion Each Year

The cost of corruption in the global forestry industry is $29 billion annually, according to a report from Interpol.

The most common form of corruption was bribery, the report said. Other forms of corruption identified by Interpol include fraud, abuse of office, cronyism and nepotism.

“By raising awareness and documenting current corruption practices as well as potential solutions, we empower law enforcement officers in the field,” said Interpol Secretary General Jürgen Stock in a statement. “This increases the chances of criminals getting caught and is one of the greatest deterrents to corruption.”
