Massachusetts has the most per-capita LEED-certified square footage in the country, with a total of 136 projects representing 3.73 square feet of certified space per resident, according to a list of the top 10 states for LEED released by the United States Green Building Council.
Colorado was second on the list with 92 projects representing 3.17 square feet of LEED-certified space per resident. Third was Illinois, 151 projects, 2.82 square feet per resident; fourth was New York, 211 projects, 2.5 square feet per resident; and fifth was California, 632 projects, 2.39 square feet per resident.
The remaining five states are Nevada, Maryland, Virginia, Washington and Texas.
A total of 1,819 projects received LEED certification in these ten states in 2016, according to the USGBC.
