China will have to import about 50 percent of the timber it consumes this year, reported Fordaq, causing “great anxiety” among Vietnamese wood products industries.
The Vietnamese wood products manufacturers fear competing with Chinese companies’ financial capabilities and large-scale operations, according to the report.
Other countries, including Laos, Cambodia and Myanmar, have taken measures to protect their timber resources—all have prohibited the export of some kinds of timber.
