Construction employment went up by 5,000 jobs in April to 6.88 million, the highest level in more than nine years, according to the Associated General Contractors of America.
The figure is an increase of 2.68 percent compared with April 2016’s total of 6.7 million.
Residential construction added 900 jobs in April, an increase of 109,300 jobs year-over-year.
“Construction firms continued adding new jobs at a faster rate than the broader economy during the past year as demand for their services remains strong," said Stephen Sandherr, the Association's CEO, in a statement. “But many firms would likely have added even more new workers if only they could find enough qualified people to bring on board.”
