Forty states added construction jobs between November 2016 and November 2017, and 39 states added jobs between October and November, according to an analysis of Labor Department data by The Associated General Contractors of America.
"There were robust construction gains in most parts of the country as the economy continues to expand," said Stephen E. Sandherr, CEO for the association, in a statement. "Demand should continue to grow as newly enacted tax cuts and regulatory reforms stimulate even more widespread economic growth."
California added the most construction jobs between November 2016 and November 2017 with 48,400. Florida followed with 41,800 jobs; then Texas with 23,900; New York with 12,600; and Pennsylvania with 12,000.
Missouri shed the largest amount of construction jobs with 6,500. It was followed by Iowa, down 6,100 jobs; North Carolina, down 3,100; and North Dakota, down 1,600 jobs.
