The sounds of big machines running may be music to the ears of wood floor pros, but they sparked the ire of vacationers onboard during a recent trip on a Norwegian Cruise Line vessel.
Passengers said they were informed that the ship would be undergoing renovations during the 15-day cruise only after they’d already set sail, according to Inside Edition, with signs posted around the ship that read, “A New Sun on the Horizon. Beautification In Process. We Apologize For Any Inconvenience.”
Video clips from the cruise, which sailed from Miami to Los Angeles through the Panama Canal, show noisy construction work, including the wooden deck sanding along with power tools and welding around different areas of the ship.
With some dubbing it the “cruise ship from hell,” passengers demanded to see the captain, who was met with shouts of protest about the ongoing construction work. The captain told passengers not to yell at him and left the hostile scene quickly.
“It was a construction zone,” one passenger told Inside Edition, also complaining of a “very noxious, chemical smell” from the work.
Norwegian later issued an apology for the mishap, and offered a free trip to the 2,000 passengers who were onboard.
