A typo in a high school’s refinished basketball court in Klamath Falls, Ore., went unnoticed by school officials and at least 1,000 passersby over the summer, according to a report by Herald and News.
Officials at Klamath Union High School—misspelled “Klamamth” in large white lettering on the court—were alerted to the misspelling after a volleyball game Aug. 28. A photo of the error circulated online in the community.
The error was quickly amended at no cost by the court’s refinisher, Salem, Ore.-based A-Game Courts, operated by Steve Hightower.
“What a gomer thing that I misspelled Klamath—Holy Moly—that’s embarrassing,” Hightower told Herald and News. “My honor says I have to come get that fixed as fast as possible.”
In a Facebook post Sept. 1, the high school praised Hightower for his “honor and integrity” after fixing the spelling mistake.
“A mistake was made and he didn’t blame anyone,” the school stated.
