The Home Depot announced it will begin offering express same-day and next-day delivery options for more than 20,000 products, including power tools, in 35 metros across the U.S.
The service, which begins Sept. 26, is part of the retail giant’s five-year expansion of delivery offerings for customers, and is another step in its ongoing competition with growing online retail services such as Amazon.
Same-day express delivery is available on orders placed online or in-store before noon, and next-day delivery is available for orders placed before 9 p.m., both for a starting cost of $8.99. Both order options are subject to the item’s availability at the purchaser’s local Home Depot.
Two-day shipping is another option and is free for thousands of items, the company stated.
The Home Depot formed partnerships with car and van delivery startups Roadie and Deliv to provide the faster delivery options for smaller items, and added expansions to its supply chain network for large bulk deliveries.
“This is just the beginning of our expansion of improved delivery options, but it’s a significant milestone in the way we’re serving customers,” Mark Holifield, executive VP of supply chain and product development, said in a statement.
