Alignable’s Small Business Inflation Poll in May found that 51% of small business owners are concerned inflation could force them to shut down their businesses within the next six months.
Of the respondents, 1% had already closed due to inflation and 1% planned to close by the end of June. Small business owners who reported being “highly concerned” about inflation closures made up 26% of respondents, and those who reported being “somewhat concerned” made up 23%. Only 21% of small business owners reported being “not concerned at all,” while 11% were “slightly concerned” and 17% were neutral.
States with the most concerned small business owners included Maryland, Connecticut, Tennessee and Colorado.
"It’s just a matter of time before we have no working capital left to operate with. I'm about to lose everything,” one small business owner said in the poll.
