Wood floor pro Liliya Ianovskaia became the oldest woman to summit K2 in Pakistan this summer at the age of 62, according to CBC.
Ianovskaia, who co-founded Zaslavl, Belarus-based Coswick Hardwood with her husband, Vladimir, in the mid-1990s, also became the first Belarusian and the first Canadian woman to make the 28,251-foot climb, according to Summit News. The previous record for oldest woman to summit K2 was set by Vanessa O’Brien, who climbed it in 2017 at the age of 52. Ianovskaia reached the summit of K2 at 3:30 a.m. on July 22, just a couple weeks shy of her 63rd birthday.
Ianovskaia started mountain climbing in her late 40s. This year alone, along with K2, she’s climbed Gasherbrum II and Everest.
