The average earnings for hourly craft workers in construction increased 6.1% year-over-year in November, climbing from $31.04 to $32.94, according to an analysis by the Associated General Contractors of America.
The increase outpaced the 5.8% year-over-year increase in average pay for all private sector production workers, meaning hourly construction workers earn an average 17.2% more per hour than those in the private sector as a whole.
The industry added 20,000 construction employees in November, bringing the total to 7.75 million, a 3.3% increase compared with November 2021.
The unemployment rate for jobseekers with construction experience was 3.9%, a decrease from the 4.7% rate in November 2021. The rate tied November 2018 as the lowest unemployment rate ever recorded for a November.
