WorkCamp Parquet, an annual event that attracts elite wood flooring professionals from around the world to work on flooring projects using traditional methods, will take place Sept. 1–9 in Győr, Hungary.
This year’s project will focus on replicating and installing the parquet floors of the Bishop’s Palace, the seat of Győr’s bishopric for nearly 1,000 years. Each participant must produce six to seven parquet replicas.
“We will make the parquets on site and then lay them in the traditional way by hammering them to the wooden base layer,” the organization stated. “We will use parquet wax for surface treatment.”
The project was designed for 35 participants, and registration is full.
WorkCamp Parquet is led by Czech Republic-based master craftsman René Caran, who champions traditional wood flooring methods. The annual event is complex and rewarding for many reasons, one of them being that most participants do not speak the same language, according to Caran.
“In order to communicate with everyone at once, I have to speak the language of the craft,” Caran told WFB in an email. “Everyone understands this at the same time.”
