Construction employment increased in 212 of 358 metro areas year-over-year in September, according to an analysis by the Associated General Contractors of America.
The number of metros with construction employment growth fell slightly from the 223 metros reporting annual gains in August.
“The number of metros adding construction employees has slipped in recent months,” stated Ken Simonson, AGC’s chief economist. “But contractors continue to report they are busy and have large backlogs, so the decline in metros with job gains probably reflects the dearth of qualified unemployed workers, not weaker demand.”
Compared with September 2022, construction employment declined in 78 metros and remained unchanged in 68.
