New York City Announces Lawsuit Against National Floors Direct for Predatory Practices

The New York City Department of Consumer and Worker Protection announced a lawsuit against New York-based National Floors Direct, alleging more than 2,000 counts of violations of the city’s consumer protection laws.

National Floors Direct is accused of predatory business practices, including targeting consumers with false advertisements, misleading them about when service will begin, providing poor quality work, and refusing to offer refunds and cancellations.

DCWP is seeking consumer restitution and the suspension or revocation of National Floors Direct’s Home Improvement Contractor license.

“New York City has some of the strictest consumer protection laws in the nation, and we are going to enforce those laws against operators that try to take advantage of working-class New Yorkers,” Mayor Eric Adams said in a statement. “With this lawsuit, we are putting National Floors Direct and all others who think they are going to take advantage of New York’s consumers on notice: we are watching, and we will take action to protect consumers and recoup their money.”

DCWP said National Floors Direct has been one of the most complained about home improvement contractors in New York City, receiving over 30 consumer complaints in the last five years.

National Floors Direct also faced an unfair practices allegation in 2019 when the Federal Trade Commission issued a Consent Order against the company after finding it violated the Consumer Review Fairness Act.
