President Donald Trump put a 30-day pause on the 25% tariffs against Mexico and Canada Monday after the two countries agreed to address his concerns about border security and drug trafficking.
In response to the pause, National Association of Home Builders Chairman Carl Harris said in a statement, “We commend President Trump for reaching an agreement with Canada and Mexico to delay the proposed tariffs, avoiding additional strain on a housing market already facing affordability challenges. Stability and certainty are essential for American businesses, consumers, and the strength of our economy. We urge all parties to remain committed to productive dialogue to prevent new tariffs on construction materials critical to housing our nation.”

The 25% tax on Canadian goods would have included lumber and wood products, such as flooring, plywood, beams and doorframes.
The 10% tax on Chinese goods still went into effect Tuesday, though Trump plans to talk with Chinese President Xi Jinping in the coming days.
