President Donald Trump signed two executive orders Saturday: one to open an investigation into lumber imports and the second to increase timber harvests on federal lands.
The first executive order requests the Secretary of Commerce launch an investigation into the demand for timber and lumber imports and whether domestic lumber can meet the U.S.’s demand.
Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnik is expected to submit a report to the president by Nov. 26.
This order comes as Trump is considering imposing a 25% tariff on international lumber and wood products, The Hill reported.
The second executive order instructs federal departments to review forestry management regulations to increase the sale of U.S. timber and lumber.
The Hardwood Federation said the second order is something it has advocated for over the years.
