Chinese customs authorities on Tuesday announced the suspension of U.S. log imports.
The American Hardwood Export Council said there is no mention of a ban on lumber or other hardwood products under this action.
China said recent inspections revealed bark beetles and longhorn beetles in U.S. logs, and the suspension will prevent their introduction into China's agricultural and forestry production.
The suspension comes after President Donald Trump's move on March 1 to order a trade investigation on imported lumber.
Trump is also considering imposing a 25% tariff on international lumber and wood products, The Hill reported.
The suspension also comes a day after Trump imposed an extra 10% import tax on China, resulting in a cumulative 20% tariff on the country.
