The residential construction industry added 3,400 jobs from March to April, according to an Associated Builders and Contractors analysis of data released by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. Year-over-over, the residential construction industry added 5,000 jobs.
The construction industry as a whole added 11,000 jobs from March to April and 143,000 jobs compared to April 2024, representing a 1.7% increase.
“The construction industry added a perfectly acceptable 11,000 jobs in April,” ABC Chief Economist Anirban Basu said in a statement. “Despite weak construction spending data for March and several economic headwinds, including high interest rates, tight lending standards and trade policy uncertainty, backlog remains sufficiently elevated to keep industry employment growing for the time being.”
